FAQ — Go 2 Data Recovery

Question 1

What should I do if my hard drive fails?

Accepted Answer

Stop using the drive immediately. Do not attempt to run recovery software on a mechanically failing drive — this can cause further damage. Power it off, pack it safely, and contact us for a free diagnosis. The sooner you act, the better your chances of a full recovery.

Question 2

How do I ship my device to you?

Accepted Answer

Pack your device in its original box if available, or use bubble wrap and a sturdy cardboard box. Avoid static bags for hard drives. We can provide a prepaid shipping label on request. Ship to our lab address provided when you submit your quote request.

Question 3

Do I need to make an appointment?

Accepted Answer

No appointment needed. Simply fill out our free quote form, pack your device, and ship it to us. We'll contact you within 24–48 hours of receiving it with a full diagnosis and quote.

Question 4

How much does data recovery cost?

Accepted Answer

Recovery costs vary depending on the device type, failure mode, and complexity of the case. Logical recoveries (deleted files, formatting) typically start lower than physical recoveries (head crashes, motor failures). We provide a firm, all-inclusive quote after the free diagnosis — no hidden fees.

Question 5

Is the diagnosis really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, completely free. We evaluate your device, identify the failure, and tell you exactly what's recoverable — at no charge. You only pay if you approve the quote and we successfully recover your data.

Question 6

What is the no-recovery, no-fee guarantee?

Accepted Answer

If we cannot recover your data, you owe us nothing. No diagnostic fee, no recovery fee, no shipping fee. We return your device at our expense. This guarantee applies to all cases — no exceptions.

Question 7

Are there any hidden fees?

Accepted Answer

Never. The quote we provide after diagnosis is all-inclusive. It covers the recovery, the new drive your data is delivered on, and return shipping. What we quote is what you pay.

Question 8

How long does data recovery take?

Accepted Answer

Diagnosis is completed within 24–48 hours of receiving your device. Once approved, most standard recoveries take 3–7 business days. RAID arrays, severely damaged drives, or complex cases may take 7–14 business days. We provide an accurate timeline during diagnosis.

Question 9

What is a cleanroom and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

A cleanroom is a controlled environment with filtered air and minimal dust particles. Hard drives must be opened in a cleanroom to prevent microscopic dust from landing on the platters, which would cause further damage. Our lab maintains ISO-certified cleanroom conditions.

Question 10

Will my original device be returned?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your original device is returned to you along with the recovered data. We never keep your hardware. Recovered data is delivered on a new encrypted external drive or via secure download.

Question 11

Can you recover data from a drive that was reformatted or had files deleted?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, yes. Deleted files and reformatted drives often retain recoverable data until that space is overwritten by new data. The sooner you stop using the drive after deletion or formatting, the better your chances of a full recovery.

Question 12

What is your success rate?

Accepted Answer

Our overall success rate is 96% across all case types. Hard drive recoveries succeed in approximately 97% of cases. SSDs at 94%, RAID arrays at 91%, and mobile devices at 88%. These rates reflect cases where recovery was attempted — we only quote cases we believe are recoverable.

Question 13

Are there cases you cannot recover?

Accepted Answer

In rare cases, data is unrecoverable — typically when platters are severely scratched, NAND chips are physically destroyed, or data has been securely overwritten multiple times. We'll tell you honestly during the free diagnosis if your case falls into this category.

Question 14

Can you recover data from a drive that was in a fire or flood?

Accepted Answer

Often yes. Fire and flood damage is more recoverable than most people expect. Water damage is particularly recoverable if the drive hasn't been powered on while wet. Fire damage depends on the severity — platters can survive significant heat. Contact us and we'll evaluate your specific situation.
